Sarina Community Native Garden Stage1 (2009 - 2009)

Project outline:

The goal of this project is to provide an educational resource for the community to utilise and one that will demonstrate and encourage the use of native plants (as apposed to non-native or weedy plants) within local plantings in urban and rural gardens. It is envisaged that the Sarina Community Native Gardens will encourage the community to become involved in other NRM activities such as Landcare and will provide links to NRM related topics such as pests, biodiversity and land management.

Project achievements and outcomes:

Approval from Council to utilise Council land
Surveying and draft Landscape design of gardens by Council & SLCMA
Volunteer involvement with initial onground works: garden establishment, planting, mulching
Use of native seedlings from SLCMA Community Nursery
Sponsorship of the Sarina Native Garden Competition 2009
Community working bee to establish some of the gardens
Designs for demonstration bio retention zone/infiltration system
